Athens Marathon Collectors' Medal Case

The Athens Marathon - The Authentic, organized annually by the Hellenic Athletics Federation, is the most prestigious Marathon event in the world, with its history going back to 490 BC.

In November 2019, participants who crossed the finish line in the historic Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimármaro), received the first of a series of 8 medals of unique historic, cultural, and artistic value, dedicated to the Marathon’s history and evolution.

This first medal bears the signature of Alékos Fasianós (1935-2022) depicting a scene from the Marathon Battle (490 BC). The second medal features Kóstas Varótsos' sculpture “lmerodrómos“: the soldier that carried the message of victory from the Marathon battlefield to Athens.

The first medal has the first letter of the word “MARATHON” embossed, and each of the following medals will bear each subsequent letter. This collectable series - designed by industrial designer Spyros Kizis, founder of design studio GRID - will be completed when the whole word will be formed.
