Compañero coffee

Compañero is a fair trade coffee brand that imports their beans directly from the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico.

For the packaging, the inspiration came from 3 key figures of the Zapatista movement: Emiliano Zapata, Subcomandante Marcos and that of an unnamed indigenous Mexican farmer. In order to find the right look and feel, different approaches were tested.

Each illustration features a visual tweak that connects each figure with the type of coffee respectively: the greek coffee pot as Subcomandante Marcos' smoking pipe...

...a filter coffee maker hiding the face of the farmer instead of her face mask...

...and an upside down espresso cup as Emiliano Zapata's hat.
